Comedian Jason Manford chased for 80 miles in ‘terrifying’ road rage ordeal

He called it one of the "weirdest experiences" of his life

Comedian Jason Manford has opened up about a “terrifying” ordeal that saw him chased for almost 80 miles.

The funnyman, 38, said he was travelling back from an event on Saturday (17.08.19) when a man blocked the road and asked to borrow some jump leads.

Jason’s driver, who was taking him home from a concert on Hayling Island, near Portsmouth, reportedly told the man no and drove past – but the motorist drove after them.

Jason told The Sun: “He’s shouting out the window, ‘Why didn’t you have any jump leads?’ and ‘What are you doing here, on the island? This is my town’. I thought, ‘We’re going to wake up in a wicker man here’.

“He follows us, driving dangerously, undercutting us on the A3, getting in front and braking suddenly. He was coming up behind us, flashing us, beeping us, shouting, and swerving in the road in front of us. It was a bit terrifying.”

Jason, who is due to star alongside former Coronation Street actress Catherine Tyldesley in upcoming BBC sitcom Scarborough, said they managed to lose the man, only for him to reappear and continue the chase.

They eventually lost him for good when they pulled up to Sutton Police Station in Surrey.

Speaking to The Mirror, a Met Police spokesperson commented: “We did an area search and located the vehicle, locked, behind the station. The man [Jason] did not want to make a crime report.”

Jason said the ordeal was among “the weirdest experiences” of his life, as it turned out the stranger had pursued him and his driver for almost 80 miles.

It follows reports that the comedian helped a dying mum of three pay off her mortgage.

In July, Jason backed a Kickstarter campaign to help Rachel Clements hit her fundraising goal.

He wrote on social media: “Facebook tells me there are over one million active fans on my Facebook page. That’s over one million potential or current actual charity ninjas.

“So only one this week and it is a super mum, Rachel, who has a number of awful things wrong with her. Yet whose only wish in the frankly awful timing of her imminent passing, now she’s in palliative care, is what any of us would want.”
