James Cracknell and wife Bev Turner announce end of marriage after 17 years

They've released a statement

In sad news, James Cracknell has confirmed the end of his marriage.

The Olympic rower and wife Beverley Turner released a statement announcing they had split up after 17 years.

The pair – who are parents to three children, Croyde, 14, Kiki, 10, and Trixie, eight – said they’d broken up a while ago, saying: “We can confirm that sadly we separated last year.

“Together, we remain committed to our amazing children, they are our absolute priority and wish people to be kind and mindful of this.”

Insiders at the Mail Online claim James – who last year appeared on Celebrity Island with Bear Grylls – moved out of their London home eight months ago and is now living in halls at Cambridge University where he is studying.

A source close to the former couple told the website: “It’s always sad when a marriage breaks down and theirs is no different.

“I don’t think anyone else is involved, they seem to have simply grown apart and separated at the end of last year.”

It followed a difficult period after gold-medal-winner James, now 46, suffered a devastating brain injury in 2010.

During filming for a show, he was knocked off his bike by a truck travelling 70mph.

Broadcaster, Beverley cared for him and the pair wrote a book together about the experience, called Touching Distance.

They both spoke about the impact of the injury, with James saying: “The biggest challenge was knowing that 80% of all people with brain injuries end up getting divorced. All I wanted to hear was Bev saying, ‘You’re back’.”

Last year, the LBC presenter admitted things were hard, saying: “On the whole it’s better for us to stay together although it is incredibly difficult.

“The reality is every relationship will go a bit [bleep].”
