Despite the rainy weather for Ladies Day at Aintree today, racegoers in Liverpool were still determined to put on their best glad rags for a day of racing and frolics.
The event is always at the top of the style calendar in the racing world, and the outfits this year did not disappoint as the ladies competed pulled out all the glam stops.
Away from the races themselves (let’s be honest, who cares about that?), champagne was poured and revellers put on their best poses for cameras.
Many predicted April showers as there was a lot of weather-appropriate gear and even matching umbrellas on display, although some not-so-savvy race-goers were left with plastic capes for rain protection – with one lady even bundling hers over her head.
Former Big Brother contestant Lisa Appleton chose to add some eye-popping colour to her all-black outfit with a bright umbrella.
Elsewhere there were coordinating groups of friends in pink, brandishing matching polka dot umbrellas (now that’s organisation!) who cheered for photographers.
One flirtatious lady in red took solice from her heels in the arms of her male friend, as they giggled their way through the day.
Meanwhile others embraced a warmer, more vintage-inspired look, with one fashionista opting for a 1950 style look, with a fur shawl and a deep-blue flared skirt.
Others decided to ignore the elements with one stylish guest celebrating what spring should be with a one-shouldered lemon-hued dress and matching hat.
While larger hats weren’t the style du jour, racegoers did accessorize their hair with more delicate pieces.
Special mention goes to one young woman who got glammed up, with one heel, while hobble her way around the course with a leg brace on her other foot.
