I’m A Celebrity’s Iain Lee rescued after falling down a wishing well

He recounted what happened on his talkRADIO show

Comedian Iain Lee has said he almost missed his live radio show after falling down a well.

The I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here star said he had to be rescued by emergency services after the accident.

Speaking on his Talk Radio show, Iain said it happened after he had only got three hours sleep and was wandering around rural villages looking for a new place to live.

Iain recalled how he’d been tired from driving, so he stopped off for coffee and a lunch.

As he was still sleepy after lunch, he decided he’d walk around the village and have a look, as it was another potential place to live.

A local woman told him about a church nearby, with a wishing well in its grounds.

He said: “There was a well, I’m stood at this well and I’ve got a 20 pence piece, I thought I will make a little wish.

“I thought I need a bit of luck and I don’t throw the coin in to the well, I toss it, because I think it looks stylish. I think I saw Frank Sinatra do it in a film.

“So I did that, tossed it, and made a wish and I heard the coin clink on the side, so I looked in and it’s stuck.”

Iain said he wanted to dislodge the coin so he got hold of the rope leading down into the well and tried to go in feet first, but fell!

Luckily, he had signal on his phone and could call for help.

He said: “I’m there thinking ‘There is no point in me shouting’ but of course you shout and then I got my phone out and I did have signal. I was able to call 999.”

The DJ was also able to tweet about his accident, writing: “Sorry team. This is messed up. Tonight’s show is cancelled as I’ve fallen down a well. This is not a joke.

“It’s not metaphorical. It’s an actual well. This is nuts. Phone dying. Help is coming but I’m a bit shaken.

“It’s not funny. Think I’ve sprained an ankle. And I’m sopping.”

He later added: “Right. Out of that bloody well. Wet. Battered. Limping. But big up to the fire service. Those men and women are absolute heroes. 2 trucks and 12 staff later I’m out! HOPEFUL I make the start of the show at 10.

“Police car gonna blue light me to @talkRADIO Increíble service from the boys and girls in blue. Thanks. #NeverForget.”

Iain had previously announced that he will stop taking calls on his radio show “because of the behaviour of some of the callers”.

He wrote on Twitter: “Because of the behaviour of some of the callers, from Monday next week my radio show will no longer be taking calls. It’s just too stressful for me. Very upsetting.”

The DJ said the decision was taken for his mental health.
