Holly Willoughby shares photo of son’s tears over World Cup semi-final

Holly and Phil shared their pride in the England team on This Morning

Holly Willoughby shared a rare photo of her son with fans, showing his reaction to England’s defeat in the World Cup semi-final.

The mum of three told followers on Instagram that Harry, nine, would “never forget” the first World Cup tournament he’s been old enough to follow.

She posted a photo of her son in front of the TV, his hands raised to his head as the final whistle blew on England’s semi-final against Croatia.

Croatia won 2-1 after extra time.

Holly added a heartbroken emoji and the caption: “For so many reasons he will never forget his 1st World Cup… x.”

Fans were quick to react to the snap with many saying their own children had a similar reaction to the game.

One said: “Awww bless him.. my son was heartbroken too.. but they done us proud.”

Another wrote: “First World Cup heartbreak in our household too last night.”

A third added: “Brilliant World Cup to be his first, though! Hopefully the next one will be our year and he’ll be that little bit older and will enjoy that little bit more.”

Holly – who rarely shares pictures of her children on social media – is also mum to daughter Belle, seven, and three-year-old son Chester with TV producer husband Dan Baldwin.

Prior to the game, Holly had shared a throwback photo of her with England’s captain Harry Kane, saying: “Thinking of this man and his teammates…. weight of a nation on his shoulders… come on boys… you got this! #england #itscominghome.”

Thursday’s episode of This Morning opened with a dejected Holly flicking through newspapers, all of which had headlines about the game.

Her co-host Phillip Schofield said he was “devastated” but very proud of the team.

Holly said: “I was watching it with my nine-year-old son and his best friend. They were watching the TV and I didn’t anticipate how bad it would get at the end.

“I had two little boys in tears last night. They had to go out to the garden and walk it off. It was their first World Cup and one they will never forget.”

Phillip said everybody should be very proud of the team, adding: “It was a very young team, they united us all, we were with them and we will be with them next time.”
