Bernie suffers the traumatic loss in the aftermath of the Great Gas Explosion that’s set to rock the Square next week.

The new clan has desperately been trying to make the schoolgirl’s unplanned pregnancy a positive thing and Bernie has been looking forward to the little one’s arrival.

In touching scenes, she asked her brother, Keanu, to be her baby’s godfather after he went with her to a scary sounding parenting class.

After her initial shock, Bernie’s mum Karen, has been supportive of her daughter, even while wondering how she’ll be able to feed yet another mouth.

But Karen is grief-stricken next week when the gas explosion and its aftermath cause Bernadette to lose the baby she’s already learned to love so much.

The family is sent into freefall, with Karen particularly on the edge of despair.

Karen finds an unlikely ally during her grief, in the form of Shirley Carter.

The unlikely shoulder to cry on offers Karen an understanding ear when she clearly needs to offload.

Will Bernadette ever come back from her loss?

The explosion on the Square has been teased in a new trailer and EE bosses have confirmed that at least one major character will lose their life.
