Linda Jennings stirs The Voice UK with Honey G vibes

Are we ready for another leisure wearing popstar to enter our lives?

Last night viewers were both giddy with excitement and simultaneously filled with horror as they witnessed what was potentially a new Honey G in the making.

Madcap Linda Jennings, 49, from Bolton, stepped out on to The Voice stage hidden behind a pair of sunglasses and clad in leisure wear to try her luck in front of the Tom Jones, Will.I.am, Gavin Rossdale and Jennifer Hudson.

No sooner had she stepped out on stage, viewers couldn’t help remember the first time Honey G entered our lives back on The X Factor last winter. And fear gripped.

Her VT clip didn’t help, as it was clear the producers had encouraged her to play up to the Honey G image by getting her to say that she was known as Linda J but had no interest in hip hop! Zzzz!

But all these details combined were enough to have viewers reach for their phones to tell social media about their unease at the potential of having another joke act enter their lives.

But the sunnies and initial in her name appeared to be the only similarities between her and The X Factor’s joke act.

For one, Linda didn’t didn’t seem as deluded as her rival pop wannabe, nor did she make a pig’s ear of her rendition of the Beatles’ The Long And Winding Road.

In fact, her vocals were adequate enough – if a little flat to us – to make Tom Jones, Will.I.Am and Gavin Rossdale all eagerly spin around for her.

A gushing Gavin told Linda that he wanted her on his team because she had transported him away, while Tom Jones told an impressive story about how Paul McCartney had actually written The Long And Winding Road for him years and years ago but he had never recorded it.

In the end, Linda, encouraged by Will who clearly didn’t want to get saddled with her, chose Tom.
