Harry and Meghan ‘won’t be controlled by William as the Fab Four part ways’

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex want to go it alone!

| Updated:

Royal sources have claimed that Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle won’t be “controlled” by heir to the throne Prince William as the Sussexs and Cambridges break up their joint charity, The Royal Foundation.

The split is thought to be taking place today (June 19), with the news expected to be announced after the foundation’s board meeting.

Royal insiders now claim that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are keen to go it alone so that Harry can “forge his own path”.

The news will only add to the rumours of a royal rift between the couples, who were dubbed the “Fab Four” when they joined forces for the charity’s Q&A forum on stage last spring.

Royal commentator Duncan Larcombe told The Sun’s Fabulous magazine: “It does seem odd. Why separate when you are both backing the same causes? Whether this is a sign of a rift, this is certainly a sign of a division.”

He added: “It is clear that Meghan and Harry were initially prepared to slot in under the wing of William and Kate but that’s not how they feel a year on.”

Indeed, after just one joint appearance, the foursome have apparently decided to go their separate ways.

Duncan added: “Harry is going to forge his own path with Meghan. For years, before he met Meghan, he was the royal gooseberry standing behind William and Kate. He’s now a full-time working royal with his wife, he wants autonomy as to what he does.”

Others have speculated that Harry no longer wants to be “controlled” by big brother William.

A source told the Sunday Times: “William’s quite controlling, and he was in control when it was just the three of them, but now he’s not.”

They added that Meghan “knows all the tricks” and is helping Harry to grow their brand.

However, while the Royal Foundation split will inevitably cause tongues to wag, it isn’t necessarily the last time we’ll see of the young royals working together for a good cause.

Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, Kate, William and Harry’s former private secretary, confirmed to the paper that the aim was for William and Harry to work together “to the full”.

The Royal Foundation was established in September 2009, with the aim of helping Princes William and Harry support their charitable causes.

Kate joined when she became Duchess of Cambridge in 2011, while Meghan became part of the foundation when she married Harry in May 2018.
