The Gogglebox stars were then aghast to hear the issue was an infected penis – and then recoiled in disgust when the creature’s ailment was shown in graphic detail.

Star Pete Sandiford admitted: “We shouldn’t have made tea while this is on.”

His sister, Sophie agreed as she paused putting a forkful of food into his mouth to say, “I am regretting it”.

As more footage of the donkey – whose name was revealed to be Gary to the hilarity of many – was shown, Sophie then dropped her cutlery and announced: “I can’t even finish that, it has made me feel sick.”

And she wasn’t the only one.

Sisters Ellie and Izzi Warner watching in Leeds also said the segment put them off their food.

“OMG! That’s enough to put you off your beans!” they joked as they ate jacket potatoes.

Meanwhile, Mary watching in Wiltshire with husband, Giles, observed in shock: “It looks like a bifurcated penis!”

Viewers at home were equally revolted by poor Gary’s plight.

“Feeling slightly queasy watching Gary the donkey! #Gogglebox,” one tweeted.

“This has put my right off my battered sausage. Wish I’d had the cod now #gogglebox,” said another.

A third asked why Channel 4 had to show the gruesome willy wound “when I am eating my spag bol”, adding a number of with vomiting emoji faces.

“Oh nooo, I don’t want to know about donkey penis problems,” agreed a fourth.

Even the official Twitter site for the show admitted: “We shouldn’t have made tea while this is on #TheYorkshireVet #Gogglebox”

Others said they couldn’t keep watching the gross footage as the cameras zoomed in on Julian treating the donkey by putting an elastic band around his infected area.

Those who did manage to stay tuned were relieved to learn Gary would get well soon, with Julian telling the farmers the donkey would recover in a few days.
