Gogglebox fans divided over newcomers after they have argument

The couple didn't impress some viewers

A new couple on Channel 4’s Gogglebox have failed to impress some viewers, with some questioning whether they are even good enough for the show.

John and Beryl are two of several newcomers introduced in the latest series of the popular reality programme.

But viewers didn’t take to their bickering in the latest episode on Friday night, which saw the pair leave their couch to argue about the washing up.

At one point, John told his partner out of shot: “Beryl, this is absolutely hopeless. You’ve put all things in the wrong way again! All these plates you’ve got in the wrong place.”

In response, Beryl called him “crazy” but John had none of it, adding: “I’m not having you taking over the washing up machine because it’s just hopeless.”

John then told Beryl she should leave the washing up to him as it’s “beyond your capabilities”.

Using the #Gogglebox hashtag on Twitter, one viewer wrote simply: “Really not feeling John and Beryl….”

Another said: “I don’t like John and Beryl. They’re not a good fit,” to which a fellow viewer replied: “She’s [Beryl] definitely snobby and wears the trousers in that relationship”.

Another wrote: “Think they could lose John and Beryl and the two girls from Durham.”

But some fans did take to the couple, as one wrote on Twitter “Aww… loving John & Beryl on #Gogglebox”.

Viewers thought John and Beryl had been introduced on the show as a replacement for Leon and June Bernicoff, the couple from Liverpool who featured on Gogglebox from the first series.

Following a short illness at the end of last year, Leon passed away just before Christmas after developing pneumonia and sepsis.

June, who decided not to continue on the show without her husband, had a book published last month about their years together, titled Leon and June: Our Story.
