GMB: Husband of Manchester victim leaves viewers heartbroken

Steve Howe told the programme about the night he lost his wife

Good Morning Britain aired a phone interview with the husband of a Manchester victim on today’s show, who gave viewers an account of his Monday night trauma.

Steve Howe, the husband of Alison Howe, who lost her life during the, recalled his “heartbreaking” story of the events.

Talking to hosts Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway, he said that he “instantly knew” that something was wrong after she didn’t pick up his phone call.

His wife had been waiting to collect their daughter Darcey and a friend at the arena.

He said: “My daughter Darcey rang me within five minutes and said Mum wasn’t answering her phone. I immediately knew something was wrong.

“I rang a friend of mine who works in security at the arena and he told me where it [the bomb] had gone off and I knew where my wife was going to be stood… because she didn’t answer her phone, we hoped she was unconscious.”

Steve said he “couldn’t put into words” how he and his two daughters are feeling at the moment.

“We’re broken in half. But, I’ve still got enough in me to try and do something about this if other people will help me.”

Demanding that the county do more to stop attacks, he firmly said “enough is enough”.

“We need to fight fire with fire. We need to stand up to the plate… let’s get something done please.”

Twitter users commended his bravery and agreed with every word he said.
