Piers Morgan gives a rare glimpse into his soft side with tribute to his parents

They are celebrating their golden wedding anniversary

| Updated:

He’s one of the most hated figures on TV, and regularly winds up millions of people on Twitter with his controversial outbursts.

But it turns out that Piers Morgan does have a soft side, when it comes to his family.

The Good Morning Britain presenter shared a picture online to pay tribute to his parents, who were celebrating their golden wedding anniversary.

Posting a black and white picture of the couple from a long time ago, alongside another more recent snap, Piers shared his pride at the family milestone.

“Happy Golden Wedding Anniversary to my fabulous parents,” he wrote.

“4 children, 13 grandchildren, 50 glorious years. Thank you!”

So he can be sweet when he wants to!

A lot of fans who replied to the post couldn’t believe that the golden wedding anniversary must mean Piers was under 50 years old.

But he’s actually not – Piers’ biological father (Irish dentist Vincent O’Meara) died when he was just one year old, and mum Gabrielle married his stepfather Glynne Pughe-Morgan a year later.

Piers took his Welsh stepfather’s name and has always called him Dad.

The tribute comes as Piers prepares to return to GMB hosting duties tomorrow.

As he and co-host Susannah Reid took time off this summer, he was replaced by stand-in presenters including Richard Madeley and Jeremy Kyle.

He will return tomorrow as planned, despite having broken three ribs in a fall last week. And he took to Twitter to send out the warning.

“Bad news, Britain… I’m back on Monday morning and raring to go like a ravenous leopard,” he said.

“Albeit one with three broken ribs. Brace yourselves… it’s going to be lively.”

Clearly ‘nice guy Piers’ can never stay around for long…
