George Michael’s lover claims singer ‘took his own life after five attempts’

The pop star passed away in 2016

| Updated:

George Michael’s former lover Fadi Fawaz has said the late singer died on Christmas Eve and not on Christmas Day as was thought.

Fadi, who had dated the Careless Whisper star since 2012, also claims the Wham! singer took his own life following four previous attempts.

The 45-year-old allegedly made his claims in emails which have been seen by The Sun.

He wrote: “I’m sick and tired of people asking me what happened on Christmas Day.

“Well let me tell you, George died on his mother’s birthday, so that might answer a few questions.

“Not to mention it took five attempts to manage to end his life. I think it’s important for the story.”

George’s mother Lesley Harrison was born on 24 December 1938, and passed away following a cancer battle in 1997.

However, a spokeswoman for George’s estate told the publication on Friday night she had “no trust” in Fadi’s claims.

In 2016, it was said that Michael died aged 53 on Christmas Day at his home in Goring-on-Thames in Oxfordshire, where tributes were also left.

A post-mortem later revealed he had died from heart disease and a build-up of fat in his liver.

He was laid to rest in a private funeral attended by family and close friends three months after his death.

Just a few days after George’s death, a series of tweets were posted to Fadi’s Twitter account in which he appeared to say George may have taken his own life.

“The only thing George wanted is to die. He tried numbers of times to kill himself many times and finally he managed,” the messages read.

“We loved each other very much and were together almost 24 hours a day.”

However, Fadi later insisted that he was not responsible for the messages, and they were the work of a hacker.

“I am shocked with what’s going on with the Twitter thing. My Twitter account has been hacked and closed,” he told the Daily Mirror at the time.

“It’s a bit scary to be honest. I did not send those tweets.”
