Gemma Atkinson reveals career plan after her baby is born

She is going on maternity leave next week

| Updated:

Pregnant Gemma Atkinson has announced she is soon to take maternity leave and she will be leaving her current radio role.

The former Emmerdale star said she will be swapping her morning show on Hits Radio for the drivetime slot instead.

The change-up has been made because Gemma, 34, will be too exhausted to do the breakfast show once her little one arrives!

Gemma, who is expecting her first child with Strictly’s Gorka Marquez, told her fans on Instagram: “It’s almost time for me to finish work for my maternity leave and take on my new role as being a mum! I’ll be hanging up my headphones on Friday 7th June, but not for too long as I’ll be returning to @hitsradiouk on a brand new drivetime show with the wonderful @wesbutters.

“I figured being woken up by a baby throughout the night will leave me in no fit state to wake you guys up at breakfast. So instead, I’ll be getting you all home from work weekdays with Wes, 4pm – 7pm. Very much looking forward to our new show with lots of fun stuff to chat to you all about!”

She added that she is now looking forward to focusing on being a first-time mum.

“In the meantime, it’s mum time. (Wish me luck on nappy duty and sleepless nights),” she continued.

Gemma’s partner, Strictly Come Dancing pro Gorka, showed his support after her message.

He commented on her post with: “So proud of you 😘😘♥️.”

The actress’ celebrity pals also wished her luck for the last stint of her pregnancy. She is due in just under two months.
