Gemma Atkinson has told fans she’s “slowly getting to grips with motherhood” in one of her first updates as a new mum.
The former Emmerdale actress, 34, welcomed her baby daughter to the world last Thursday (July 4) with her Strictly Come Dancing pro boyfriend Gorka Marquez.

Taking to Instagram this afternoon (July 9), Gemma thanked all her followers for their messages of support and said she loves being in a “little cocoon” with her “wonderful” daughter.
She wrote on her Stories: “Thank you for all your lovely messages. Our daughter is so wonderful. I’m slowly getting to grips with motherhood, learning loads, and I’m loving being in this little cocoon with her.
“I feel extremely lucky to be on this journey with mine and Gorks little human.”

Gorka announced the news on social media over the weekend with a selfie of the two of them looking loved up together.
He wrote alongside the snap: “The last pic before we became three. Our beautiful baby daughter arrived on Thursday 4th July and myself and Gem couldn’t be happier.
“She’s incredible and she certainly made an entrance, giving us all quite a fright at times. @glouiseatkinson my absolute HERO!
“After seeing you go through all you did to bring our little girl to life has made me love and respect you even more.
“What a trooper you are. I couldn’t be more proud of you!! Thank you SO much to the nurses & doctors at The Royal Bolton Hospital who did the most incredible job taking care of Gem and our baby. Back home now for family time.”
Gemma later thanked the midwives who made her and the newborn feel “safe and cared for”, calling them “angels”.

She wrote on her Instagram Stories: “Personal thank you to the midwives at Royal Bolton Hospital. Genuinely the warmest, most caring team.
“Every ward I was on myself and my family felt safe and cared for. You are angels #NHS.”
In another post, Gemma revealed that the two of them were home from hospital and she was introducing the tot to her “big brothers” – her beloved dogs Norman and Ollie.
She added: “Let the next life chapter begin.”
