Gemma Atkinson explains why she WANTS to fall victim to the Strictly love curse

Who says a curse has to be a bad thing?

| Updated:

The dreaded Strictly Come Dancing love curse is usually best avoided at all costs if you want to remain in a happy relationship.

But soap star Gemma Atkinson has bucked the trend by insisting she WANTS to fall victim to the show’s infamous curse and would openly welcome a bit of behind the scenes fun.

Of course, the ex Emmerdale and Hollyoaks star is single, so she has nothing to lose by embracing the curse and finding herself love on the dance floor.

She joked to The Sun: “I’ve been single for ages so there wouldn’t be any curse for me. It would be a blessing!”

However, the 32-year-old admitted that dancing the tango with a relative stranger isn’t as sultry as it may seem on camera.

“Being forced to be face-to-face with someone you’ve just met is mortifying,” she said.

“It sounds all lovely. But it’s like doing a scene with one of your mates at Emmerdale. On camera it looks good, but when you’re in it and doing it, it’s awkward.”

Gemma’s been single since splitting from fitness trainer beau Olly Foster last year and was once linked to footballer Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Strictly curse has been blamed for breaking up or putting a strain on a slew of high profile romances including Louise and husband Jamie Redknapp, while others who are said to have fallen victim include Georgia May Foote and Rachel Riley.

However, the celeb contestants this year entering the show with a partner have insisted they aren’t worried.

Married EastEnders hunk Davood Ghadami said: “I only know EastEnders actors who have done it and they’ve all had partners and they’ve come out the other side and retained friendships with people they’ve met here and carried on in their normal relationships.”

“I don’t think it’s a thing,” he added to The Birmingham Mail.

Meanwhile, chef Simon Rimmer joked his wife Ali has no concerns about any of the pro dancers being attracted to her “lumbering” husband.

“In terms of the alleged curse of Strictly we were out with friends the other week and one of our friends said ‘Are you not worried about it?'” he told The Irish Independent.

“Ali said ‘So let me get this straight then: a really fit young beautiful dancer is going to be tempted to be wooed away by my lumbering 54-year-old husband who can’t dance’.

“So, she’s not worried.”

That’s the spirit, Ali!
