Former footballer Paul Gascoigne has been charged with sexual assault.
Police confirmed to The Sun: “A man is due to appear in court next month charged in connection with the sexual assault of a woman on board a train from York to Durham.”
Naming the troubled TV star, they went on: “Paul Gascoigne, of Amy Street, Leicester, was charged via postal requisition with one count of sexual assault by touching, contrary to Section 3 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003.
“The charge relates to an incident on board a train on August 20 this year.”
He will appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on December 11.
Paul – known to fans as Gazza – has not directly mentioned the charge, but worried his followers on Sunday night with a series of erratic tweets.
At 9.30pm he wrote: “Have a lovely evening love to all x thanks for your tweets x brilliant love them all oh a tweet from me ?? Keep on your toes 👀🤐🔮👍x buy a mirror and watch your own back it’s [bleeping] safer guys this applies to both ❤️💙🤐😜xx love from Paul x I’m off to kip xx.”
His 348k followers replied to say: “Oof you ain’t looking too great in the news,” while another added: “Paul best wishes, stay strong 👍.”
A third added: “Oh gazza what have you done now xx.”
The former England player was initially arrested in August, when he was held at Durham railway station by British Transport Police.
