Frank Lampard says it was “love at first sight” when he met wife Christine

Oh, this is adorable

Former footballer Frank Lampard has spoken about falling for his wife, Christine Lampard, calling it: “Love at first sight.”

Appearing with Emma Barnett on her BBC Radio 5 Live show to talk about receiving the 2018 Legends Of Football award in aid of the Nordoff Robbins charity, the ex-Chelsea player, 39, also revealed: “I had been on my own for a year, single for a year, and I’d had a very hard time with my mum, and I was in a difficult place.”

Frank, who now writes children’s books, lost his mum, Pat to pneumonia in April 2008, shortly before meeting the Loose Women presenter.

He said: “I don’t need to go into that, but it was tough, and I was working and that was my get-out from a very hard year for myself.

“But meeting Christine was completely uplifting for me because, we say it was love at first sight. We met, and very quickly we kind of moved in together and were inseparable.”

Frank, who is dad to daughters Luna and Isla from his previous relationship with ex-partner, model Elen Riva, added: “I fell in love. She brought the perfect balance to my life.

“We’re very happy. Simple as that.”

The loved-up pair met in 2009, and married in 2015. In December they celebrated their two year wedding anniversary and Frank wrote a touching tribute on Instagram.

He captioned a picture with Christine: “Two years ago today I became a very lucky man. Anniversary lunch with @christinelampard. Beautiful.”

His adorable comments come as the Northern Irish presenter prepares to celebrate her 39th birthday on Friday.

Christine posted a picture on Sunday of her hubby drinking a pint, as fans piled in to wish her a happy birthday.

It comes after an appearance on Loose Women earlier this month, where Christine hinted that the secret to their long-lasting happiness is laughter.

She said: “I’ve always said that being with someone you can properly belly laugh with and you don’t need anyone else to contribute to the conversation is really special.

“And definitely the fancying thing. You’ve got to look at them and go, ‘That’s my husband’ and I think that’s special.”

She went on: “We’ve been married just over two years, but we’ve been together almost nine, and I look at him now and I still feel the same way I did when I first met him, if not more. So I think that’s very special.”

It sure is.
