Former Emmerdale and Dancing on Ice star Roxanne Pallet has given up acting for good, saying she doesn’t feel valued any more.
Roxanne, who played Jo Sugden on Emmerdale, says the acting profession is “fickle” and she wants out.
“The acting industry has become fickle and ridiculous. Roles are going to reality stars and bloggers just because they have loads of social media followers,” she told the Daily Star Sunday.
“I’ve also been told to lose weight, get Botox and change my accent to get a casting. I wasn’t prepared to do that. I don’t feel appreciated as an actress so I am quitting the industry.”
Roxanne has turned her hand to radio instead, joining Minster FM inYork as a breakfast presenter.
“Say a little prayer for Ben Fry who will have to cope with me every morning as his new crazy sidekick!” Roxanne wrote on Instagram.
Roxanne shot to fame back in 2006 when she joined Emmerdale as Jo Stiles. Her character married Andy Sugden and the pair were embroiled in a nasty abusive marriage.
Andy put Jo in hospital more than once, and he later lied and pretended she was the one abusing him.
After leaving the show, Jo went on to wow audiences in Dancing on Ice, and trod the boards in several musicals.
But she’s lost her love for acting and has decided to leave that part of her life behind. Instead, she’s looking forward to her new career on radio.
“The magic of going live in the studio and reaching thousands of listeners is so thrilling,” she said. “Early mornings will be tricky – I may have to drive to work in my pyjamas some mornings as I’m known for sleeping through my alarm.”
We’re sure she’ll do brilliantly in her latest role.
