Former soap star Michelle Collins reveals Strictly Come Dancing ‘snub’

The actress blamed a "snobby" former agent

Michelle Collins has revealed she was once told not to take part in Strictly Come Dancing by a former agent.

The ex Coronation Street and EastEnders actress appeared on Good Morning Britain today where she said she was approached by the BBC to appear on the hit show four years ago.

Michelle, who starred on Corrie from 2011 to 2014 as Stella Price, admitted she had turned down the offer and show bosses hadn’t asked her again since.

Speaking to presenters Kate Garraway and Ben Shepherd, she said: “I’ll be honest, they asked me four years ago and I turned it down because I was with an agent who was a little bit snobby about it.

“I’d just gone with this new agent and she said ‘Oh I don’t think you should’ and they’ve never asked me since.”

She added: “It’s not me being a bit snobby!”

Kate, who was on the show in 2007, urged Michelle to take some dance lessons and try and secure a spot next year.

“Go get some lessons! Don’t tell anyone, Michelle and have some dance lessons. We’ll get on to the BBC and you can do it next year.”

However, Michelle said she would “rather be doing a nice TV series or a play or something.”

Though she did have high praise for her former on-screen daughter Catherine Tyldesley, who is taking part in the current series.

“She’s a sort of musical theatre person, she’s a great singer, great mover. She is in her element, she will love it. I hope she does well, I’m sure she will.”

Earlier this week Cath told BBC Breakfast that she’s been “loving it” so far, but has been forced to take travel sickness tablets to help her perform the Viennese Waltz.

“Do you know what? I’m loving it and my partner Johannes is just phenomenal in every way. I’m extremely nervous and I’m doing the Viennese Waltz, which makes me feel very sick,” she said.

“I’m actually taking travel sickness tablets because of the spinning!”
