"Sadistic" former prison officer jailed for raping five women

He carried out his attacks between 2005 and 2018

An ex-prison officer wept as a judge jailed him for 20 years for a series of rapes.

Mark Scott, 34, was found guilty of nine rapes on five women and one attempted rape on a sixth, following a seven-week trial held at Hull Crown Court.

The former HMP Hull officer snared his victims on nights out in the city and through dating websites Badoo and Plenty of Fish.

According to the Hull Daily Mail, he carried out his attacks between 2005 and 2018.

Scott was found not guilty of two other rapes against one of his victims.

According to Humberside Police, he would have "killed someone" had he been able to continue.

He was convicted at the end of May and sentenced on Tuesday (June 25), when judge recorder Ben Nolan QC gave him 20 years behind bars with an eight-year extended licence period.

Members of the jury had taken one day to deliver their verdict at the trial, in which Scott denied all charges against him.

The prosecution called Scott a man who seemed "charming, good fun and attractive" but harboured "another side".

The women who came forward in the case should be held in the highest esteem for their bravery and dignity throughout.

And Recorder Nolan said he had an "ingrained sense of entitlement to sex on his terms" and a "sadistic streak".

Criminal barrister Charlotte Baines, prosecuting, told the court: "Mark Scott did not care that these women at times were not consenting to sexual activity with him."

One victim said she had tried to bury his attack on her because it involved "a lot [she doesn't] want to remember".

But Scott claimed the multiple accusations made against him were all a big coincidence and insisted his victims were lying.

Scott, formerly of Daville Close in Hull, will have to serve two thirds of his sentence.

In a statement on Humberside Police's website, Detective Sergeant Anneliese Tomlinson, of the force's Protecting Vulnerable People Unit, said: "The women who came forward in the case should be held in the highest esteem for their bravery and dignity throughout.

"I have the upmost respect for them for contacting us, working with us and helping us bring this individual to justice.

"Ultimately it has led to Mark Scott being handed a significant sentence today which will mean he will be removed from any direct contact with women for a very long time."
