Former Coronation Street favourite Roy Barraclough has died aged 81.
The actor played Alec Gilroy, landlord of the Rovers Return, and husband of the iconic Bet Lynch, from 1986 until 1992 before reprising the role between 1996 and 1998.
His agent, Gavin Barker Associates, confirmed to The Sun the Lancashire-born star had passed away in a statement reading:
“Our client Roy Barraclough has passed away today aged 81 after a short illness.”
As well as Corrie, Roy had starred in a number of other TV faves including Casualty, Last Of The Summer Wine, and Last Tango In Halifax.

He also formed a partnership alongside the late Les Dawson in the 1970s and they were probably best-known for playing Ada and Cissy, two grotesque ladies of a certain age.
Roy was most recently seen on our screens in the special Are You Being Served Tribute episode that aired on the BBC last year.
Throughout his time on Corrie, Roy’s biggest storylines included his tempestuous marriage to Bet, and his failed engagement to Rita Sullivan.
