First Dates' Fred Sirieix takes Piers Morgan to task over comments about the bar-tending industry

He was standing up for his profession

Piers Morgan has been involved in a long-running feud with American Democratic senator, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

When Ocasio-Cortez dismissed Ivanka Trump's appearance at the recent G20 summit in Osaka, Japan by saying, "but being someone’s daughter actually isn’t a career qualification", the Good Morning Britain host sprang into action defending the President's daughter by seeming to make a disrespectful remark about Ocasio-Cortez's previous job - as a bartender.

Now First Dates' Fred Sirieix has got involved.

Fred's Tweet divided opinion on the social media site.

Many of his 104,000 followers left a comment to keep the debate going.

Some agreed with Fred, with one follower tweeting: "I think people just think anyone can walk into a top job as a front of house staff. It's an absolute killer in higher end catering jobs and you've got to be really tough mentally to do them."

"Underappreciated and not respected. Time for change," another said.

But some disagreed.

"I'm sorry I wouldn't say highly skilled, that's an insult to highly skilled jobs such as engineering, medicine etc, I've worked as a barman and waiter, no skill needed, unless we are talking about top end cocktail bartending, that requires skill," one person said.

Another commented: "My first job and 40 years on I’m still in this wonderful industry."
