Faye Brookes and Gareth Gates’ long-time romance may not be over for good after the announcement they’re taking some time apart.
Coronation Street star Faye, 31, and singer Gareth, 34, confirmed in matching Twitter statements on Monday that they’d ended their five-year relationship.
Of course, there has been speculation about what may have happened to cause the split, given how loved up the couple appeared to be in recent months.
However, a spokesperson for Gareth told The Sun that neither Gareth nor Faye have any plans to discuss the intricacies of their relationship and suggested it may not be over for good.
“At this time they don’t wish to disclose the personal reasons why,” said Gareth’s rep.
“Faye and Gareth remain the best of friends and hopefully after some time apart they’ll be clearer on what the future holds for them.”

The split came as a shock to fans when Faye and Gareth announced it via Twitter on Monday.
In matching posts, they each wrote: “Unfortunately [we] are choosing to take some time apart. We remain the very best of friends. We’d like to thank you for all your support over the years .”
Since then, Faye has posted a string of motivational and inspirational quotes to Instagram Stories.
One read: “You are enough. You matter. You are unique. You are loved. You are worthy. You are beautiful. You are divine.”
A further quote read, “stay patient and trust your journey.”
A third showed an image of a lion with the words, “tough situations build strong people” written across it.
They had been together for more than five years after meeting while co-starring in Legally Blonde: The Musical, and had discussed marriage in recent interviews.
Earlier this year Faye had told The Sun’s Fabulous magazine: “I talk about [marriage] all the time but Gareth loves to surprise me. He goes big or goes home.”
Faye told The Sun of meeting Gareth: “It was a real fairy tale – I totally believe in fate and that he was meant to walk into my life for a reason. He became my best friend and it blossomed into us becoming this unbelievable duo.
“I’ve found the guy I want to spend the rest of my life with and if he does propose, then it’s going be a complete surprise.”
The couple previously launched their own drama school in Manchester, Fates Academy, and had been frequent fixtures on each other’s social media accounts with cute messages and pictures.
The most recent photo of Gareth on Faye’s Instagram is from July, the same month she posted a gushing message to him reading: “Not only is he the man of my dreams but he is my best friend. I count my lucky stars every day that I found you buster @gareth_gates. Here’s to you my angel.”
Gareth last shared a photo with Faye when they attended a wedding on August 12.
