Favourite couple from The Undateables announce their engagement

He won her heart with a song when they first met

A couple whose budding romance warmed hearts on Channel 4’s The Undateables last year are tying the knot.

Daniel Wakeford, who has autism, met partner Lily Taylor for a coffee shop date on the Christmas edition of the hit dating show last year.

In the festive special this year Daniel, 30, serenaded Lily, 23, with a heart-melting rendition of All I Want For Christmas Is You.

According to The Mirror, after singing he got down on one knee to pop the question, Lily said yes and he placed a diamond ring on her finger.

An ecstatic Daniel said afterwards, “I did it! We love each other. I’m feeling very excited. What’s the best feeling in the world? Love.”

Lily, who has learning difficulties, said she is “so very happy” and added: “We’re getting married! I love him very much.”

The romantic scene was filmed at Brighton Bandstand, Lily’s favourite place, while their families watched on.

Daniel’s dad Barry said: “When he found Lily, all his Christmases came at once.”

Lily’s mum, Karen, said her family “sobbed our socks off with joy” because her daughter has “won the love lottery”.

It was fitting that Daniel sang to Lily before proposing, as he originally won her heart with a music. On last year’s Christmas special, the passionate songwriter performed his song The Black Of Lonely for her.

When they first met he introduced himself as a ‘rockstar’ and told Lily her “red hair is so beautiful”. Lily, who appeared equally smitten, gave Daniel a chocolate advent calendar.

The two hit it off from there, with Lily admitting that she fancies Daniel “very, very, much” before they shared a kiss.

Speaking to The Mirror in October, Daniel described his “lovely” bond with his Undateables co-star.

He told the paper: “Lily likes me on the telly, and now she’s being my girlfriend. It feels so lovely when I’m with her. It’s been nearly a year now.”

Having found fame through the Channel 4 dating show, Daniel now spends his time attending signings and performing his own music.

The Undateables: A Festive Proposal will air on Tuesday, 16th December at 9pm.
