Fans spark huge debate over Holly and Phil’s Corrie cameo

Mega awkward? Or the best thing on TV?

| Updated:

The last people we expect to crop up on Corrie are Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield, but the presenting duo made their first cameo on the ITV soap last night, receiving a mixed reaction from fans.

Holly and Phil were joined on the This Morning sofa by none other than Coronation Street’s Rosie Webster, Craig Tinker and Gemma Winter, as they grilled Rosie, played by actress Helen Flanagan, about her role in the take down of a drugs lord.

And laughter ensued from the start!

Craig, played by Colson Smith, was so enamoured with Holly that he refused to let go of her hand, with Phil quipping: “They all do that”.

Gemma, played by Dolly-Rose Campbell, who ‘did her own make up’ and wore a striped crop top, then flirted up a storm with an awkward Phil, before commenting how she thought he would be ‘bigger’.

Not missing a mark, Holly followed suit with: “They always say that, too”.

Yet the daytime TV sweetheart didn’t escape unscathed either, as Rosie, dressed in a pink dress and Pat Butcher-inspired earrings, told her, “Can I just say, I know you’re a style icon for mums and that, but I’d totally wear most of your clothes”.

Holly awkwardly replied, “Oh, thank you”.

Rosie was dubbed by fans as ‘the star of the show’.

Fans, however, were completely split over Holly and Phil’s acting skills.

“This is so weird. Holly and Phil not recognising characters they talk about on a weekly basis,” wrote one Corrie fan.

Another added: “This is going to be one of the cheesiest, cringiest moments in Corrie history, but I’m sure Holly and Phil had fun at least.”

Others thought the This Morning and Corrie crossover was too much of a ‘parody’ for the usually serious soap.

“Don’t get me wrong, I love Corrie, but this ‘This Morning’ skit feels like the kind of thing you would find on Comic Relief or a Children in Need parody sketch, not a fan,” commented an unhappy viewer.

However, there were also strong messages of support for the duo, known for their cheeky sense of humour and naughty on-air jokes.

“Phil and Holly on Corrie has to be the best thing that has ever happened,” gushed one Twitter fan.

Another agreed: “Just catching up with Corrie and Holly and Phil and This Morning are on it. THIS.IS.BRILLIANT. My fave things in one place!”

Holly and Phil haven’t responded to the feedback, but Holly tweeted a video of the footage, adding: “Thanks for having us”.
