Hollyoaks viewers were stunned this evening when old fan favourite, Ruby Button, made an unexpected return to the Channel 4 outing of the soap.
Ruby, played by actress Anna Shaffer, was last seen in 2014 when she left the village after Frankie Osborne – who she lived with during her time in the village – slept with her boyfriend, Ziggy Roscoe.
But all was forgiven as Ruby returned for Frankie’s funeral. Frankie passed away earlier this month after suffering a stroke at home.
Ruby lived in Hollyoaks for three years and during that time was involved in a whole bunch of high-profile storylines, including bullying her foster sister, Esther Bloom, which led to Esther attempting suicide.
She was also addicted to drugs at one point and suffered a heart attack after taking cocaine.
Ruby was only to happy to reveal her life has worked out pretty well, putting her troubled past behind her and even snagging herself a rich fiance.
But, as with all good soap comebacks, is all really as it seems?
Or is Rubes hiding something?
Whatever the case, Nancy Osborne was delighted to see Ruby back. And so were most viewers.
One excited fan tweeted: “Pretty much screamed the house down when I saw that Ruby was back, ahh!”
Another added: “Can Ruby stay forever please i’ve missed her”
And a third said: “So happy ruby is back! abit of the good old hollyoaks”
And there were more…
But not quite everyone was pleased to see the former (?) troublesome teen back.
One unimpressed viewer wrote: “Why oh why is Ruby back? Ffs she annoys me”
Another agreed, saying: “Please say Ruby was jusy in it for that one episode. Cannot stand her character.”
It looks like Ruby is going to be sticking around for a while, and causing even more trouble when she attempts to kiss Luke Morgan at Frankie’s wake.
Mandy ain’t gonna like that.
Rubes comes with an offer for Esther to leave Hollyoaks and join her in Spain.
Will Esther head off for a new start, or stick around with her family while they need her the most.
