EastEnders star fears for his job after new chief ‘sacked him’ in 2003

The actor reportedly angered bosses in the past

EastEnders actor Dean Gaffney has recently returned to Albert Square, but is reportedly now fearing for his job.

The BBC show’s boss Sean O’Connor left the soap last week, and it was he who hired Dean for his second stint in the hit soap.

With Sean gone, temporary new show chief John Yorke now has the power to fire Dean, should he want to.

It was John who wrote out Dean’s character back in 2003 and according to The Sun, the actor, who plays Robbie Jackson, is scared he’ll get the boot again.

“There is no love lost between the pair,” said the source.

“Dean knows John isn’t his biggest fan so his return has taken the shine off Dean’s comeback.

“He’s been expressing his concern to cast and crew since it was confirmed John would be taking control.

“It’s a shame as he loves EastEnders and is putting his heart into making his return a successful one.”

Dean’s exit 14 years ago was said to be due to his partying lifestyle, and with his old boss back, he’s going to have to be extra careful.

The 39-year-old is back in the soap playing the new market inspector, but Easties fans aren’t too keen on the storyline.

“I think he’s already making his mark in the sense of rubbing people up the wrong way. And again, it is typical Robbie,” Dean told Digital Spy.

“I got a script the other day and I thought, ‘That’s Robbie’, because it’s just him annoying people on the Square, and them getting their own back. So he hasn’t changed in that sense.”

He certainly hasn’t. Viewers aren’t keen on his character, with one questioning whether he can even read.

Another commented on Dean’s acting ability, comparing him to a “plank of wood”.

Ouch!

However, many loved seeing him return to the BBC soap.

One said: “Just watching tonight’s #EastEnders. Dean Gaffney is so magnificently delighted to be back. It almost brings a tear to the eye.”
