EastEnders Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell BACK from the dead

Are they playing ghosts?

EastEnders fans devastated by the shock double death of Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell will be delighted that the pair are returning to our screens.

The sisters drowned in a tragic New Year’s Day episode that saw Roxy suffer a heart attack after jumping into a swimming pool before Ronnie went in after her and getting dragged under by the lace on her wedding dress.

It was a pretty dramatic ending for the girls, who were part of the Mitchell family for nine years.

And since their departure, some fans have been convinced that Roxy at least isn’t actually dead, but in hiding somewhere.

Sadly for them though, the ladies aren’t returning to the soap – actresses Samantha Womack (Ronnie) and Rita Simons (Roxy) are being touted as the top targets for this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.

A show insider told The Sun:

“The BBC are well aware of the anger from EastEnders fans when it was announced the girls were to be axed from their roles.

“The powers-that-be are convinced that signing them up would prove to be a sure-fire ratings winner for the new series.”

It’s still really early in the casting process for the reality show, so nothing has been confirmed, but how good would it be to see them reunited on screen?

The insider added to the publication:

“It’s fair to say that people are keen to sign at least one of them and if at all possible both of the girls for the new series.”

EastEnders stars have a great track record on the dancing contest, with Jake Wood (Max Branning) getting to the semi-final in 2014, Matt Di Angelo (Dean Wicks) reaching the 2007 final, and Jill Halfpenny (Kate Mitchell) wining it back in 2004.

So the girls would be in good company if they did take part.

The sisters are much-missed in Walford, with widower Jack Branning struggling to cope with three young kids following the loss of his wife.

He’s been blaming Roxy for everything and has recently decided not to put her name on the headstone set to go down at the girls’ graves.
