EastEnders legends Babs Windsor and John Altman hint at ghostly comebacks

He could be joined by the late Peggy Mitchell in supernatural special!

| Updated:

What a week for rumoured soap comebacks of the somewhat un-phantom-able kind.

First Babs Windsor declared that she’d like to appear in EastEnders again and now fellow Albert Square alumni John Altman has said the same.

As fans of the soap will well know, there is a fly in the ointment of these hopes though. Their characters Peggy Mitchell and Nick Cotton are both brown bread – DEAD.

Queen Vic legend Peg popped her clogs after committing suicide this summer; Nasty Nick died at the hands of his mother Dot last year.

However, it seems passing over to the other side should no longer be deemed the end of a soap character’s tenure.

John has told the Daily Star: “I would go back after all these years, yeah of course I would.

“It’s not going to do me any harm.”

In another interview he argued: “Maybe Nick could return as a ghost – a bit like Jacob Marley in A Christmas Carol.”

It seems part of John’s motivation for returning to the show is his real-life relationship June Brown, who plays his on-screen mum.

“June and I are intertwined on the show, we go together,” he gushed. “It’s like Morecambe and Wise, Reg and Ronnie, Nick and Dot.”

John or Babs returning as sceptres isn’t out of the realms of possibility – as Peggy took her own life, she was ‘visited’ by her late friend Pat (Pat St Clement).

In fact, we’re feeling a Walford Underworld spin-off – that’d be hot…
