Fans were left stunned when they spotted not one, but two EastEnders stars walking the red carpet at the Oscars.

Ben Hardy, who played Peter Beale in the BBC soap, and Anita Dobson, who portrayed Angie Watts, attended the star-studded ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Ben, 28, was at the event with his Bohemian Rhapsody co-stars as he played Roger Taylor in the film, which was nominated for five Academy Awards last night.

The star looked very dapper in a white tuxedo as he discussed the popular film with his castmates.

Viewers watching from home rushed to Twitter to express their shock over seeing a familiar face at the Hollywood event.

One person said: “It’s so mad seeing Peter Beale on the Oscar red carpet #Oscars,” while another wrote: “Peter Beale at the Oscars is honestly something I never thought I’d see #Oscars.”

A third tweeted: “Bet Peter Beale from #eastenders AKA @benhardy0291 can’t believe he’s gone from Walford to the #Oscars.”

A fourth added: “Peter Beale from EastEnders on the #Oscars red carpet. Mind-blown.”

Meanwhile, viewers were shocked to see Anita sitting in the audience during the ceremony.

The soap legend, 69, is the wife of Queen guitarist Brian May, who had a huge role to play in the story of Bohemian Rhapsody.

One person wrote on Twitter: “Is anyone else super psyched to see Anita Dobson finally at the #Oscars.”

Another said: “I get a genuine thrill every time the camera pans to Anita Dobson. #Oscars.”

A third added: “Watching the Oscars and have to say, how amazing does Anita Dobson look! Wow!”

Anita starred in the soap from 1985 to 1988.

Meanwhile, Ben left EastEnders in 2015 after two years of playing Ian Beale’s son.

Following his departure from the soap, Ben has starred in X-Men: Apocalypse and Bohemian Rhapsody.
