This Morning host Eamonn Holmes has excitedly announced the news that his eldest son Declan has got engaged to his girlfriend Jenny Gouk.

Eamonn shares Declan, daughter Rebecca and son Niall with ex-wife Gabrielle, and his youngest son Jack with wife Ruth Langsford.

The Irish presenter wrote: “I am proud to announce the engagement today of Number 1 Son @decholmes & his now fiancee Dr @JennyGouk. Much happiness in both our families.”

His followers rushed to congratulate Declan and Jenny.

One said: “Congratulations to them both. What a lovely couple.”

“That’s brilliant news, Eamonn! You are such a loving dad and must be so proud. Congratulations to the happy couple,” another tweeted.

Proud dad Eamonn often gushes about his children but rarely shares photos of them on social media.

But recently he delighted fans with a rare snap of daughter Rebecca, 26, as they enjoyed a day out together with their dog Maggie.

He captioned the shot: “Out with two of my favourite girls. Enjoying a lovely autumn day with daughter Rebecca & lovely Maggie.”

Fans went crazy for the photo with one commenting: “Beautiful photo, Eamonn!”

Another wrote: “What a very beautiful daughter you have.”

“Rebecca is beautiful,” a third added.

Meanwhile Eamonn has been busy supporting his other-half Ruth, also 57, as she stars on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.

The launch of the show didn’t go too well for Ruth as she ended up at the bottom of the leader board for her Waltz routine with professional dance partner Anton du Beke.

Her performance failed to impress the judges, especially harsh critic Craig Revel Horwood.

On the night Craig told Ruth: “It really was the stumble and grab dance for me. Hopefully you’ll do better next week, darling.”

Ruth appeared upset over the comment as she said: “I tried, Craig, I tried.”

Following the show Eamonn immediately took to Twitter to defend the Loose Women star and praised her for her performance.

He said: “She did her best but she couldn’t beat her nerves. I love her so much. Time to bring her home time. #Strictly.”

However, more recently Eamonn appears to be missing Ruth while’s she’s busy learning her new moves with Anton.

Missing her so much in fact he’s bought a life-size cardboard cut out of Ruth to keep him company.

In a hilarious photo on his Instagram Eamonn cosied up to cut out Ruth while enjoying a cuppa.

“Another week for the Real Ruth on #strictly …. but this one eases the loneliness and I have my memories,” he wrote.

And it could be a while before Eamonn gets Ruth back by his side as she wowed judges with last week’s performance and bagged a place in the third live show this weekend.

Anton, 51, and Ruth will be getting their dancing shoes on to perform a rumba to Diamonds Are Forever from James Bond for this week’s movie extravaganza.

Strictly Come Dancing returns tomorrow night at 6:35pm on BBC One.
