Eamonn Holmes reveals how he “saved a fortune” while off work sick

Good things can happen when you're very bored!

Eamonn Holmes has revealed he was so bored while off work sick that he decided to delve into his and wife Ruth Langsford’s finances.

The Northern Irish presenter fell ill last week and was forced to skip an episode of This Morning and two of his talkRadio shows after losing his voice.

But on Friday, he was back on the This Morning sofa with Ruth – albeit not quite up to full health just yet.

After a discussion on Martin Lewis and money saving tips, he informed Ruth that he’d actually managed to save the couple “a fortune” while unwell.

Eamonn said he had remembered Martin previously advising This Morning viewers to regularly check their direct debits to see whether they were paying out for things they no longer used.

And in Eamonn and Ruth’s case, that was correct!

“When I was off sick and had nothing to do I [went through all our direct debits],” said Eamonn.

“You would be amazed at the things I was still paying for like a Dixons cover plan – Dixons went down the tube about five years ago! Orange telecommunications. They don’t even exist anymore – they became EE – and I’ve been paying out.”

He continued: “Also newspaper subscriptions that come to your iPad and you don’t even read.

“Martin has saved us a fortune!”

Eamonn revealed on Friday’s show that although he was back at work he still wasn’t fully recovered from the virus that left him coughing, nursing a sore throat and unable to talk.

“I’m not better,” he warned.

“Don’t get it into your head that I’m better. I’m struggling on, well below par.”

Poor Eamonn!

But at least he’s freed up some cash to keep himself stocked up with tissues, lozenges and cups of tea, right?

As well as having to miss out on work commitments, he was also too poorly to attend the glamorous National Television Awards on Tuesday evening.

Instead, he looked very sorry for himself in a video posted with wife Ruth before she left for the event.

While Ruth looked ravishing in a gorgeous red gown, poor old Eamonn pulled a sad face while standing in a grey dressing gown.

He joked to fans: “One of us is off to The #NTA Showbiz Ceremony and the other is staying at home poorly, uncared for abandoned, coughing endlessly. Can u guess which of us is doing what?”

Aww!
