Eamonn Holmes gets no sympathy from Ruth Langsford as he returns to work after illness

All in good fun, of course!

Eamonn Holmes returned to work on This Morning today after being forced to skip last week’s episode because of illness.

And cheeky wife Ruth Langsford couldn’t resist lovingly taking a few swipes at her other half!

The Northern Irish presenter, 58, was back with Ruth on the ITV daytime show today, after being laid low for a week with a nasty virus that left him unable to talk.

Sounding croaky, he said: “It was a Herculean effort on my behalf to be here today.”

Eamonn went on to thank everyone who had sent him support, saying: “Could I just say, I got so many letters of well-wishes and get well soon.”

But naughty Ruth then interrupted to ask Eamonn for an exact figure on the number of letters he got.

“Lots,” he replied.

“How many?” she pressed. “Honestly, how many?”

A sheepish Eamonn replied: “One.”

He then read out that letter, from a Rosemary in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, which said: “I thoroughly look forward to Fridays when the pair of you are presenting. Your sense of humour reminds me of my husband.”

A smiling Ruth then interrupted again to joke: “Poor you [Rosemary], you have one too, have you? Is he Northern Irish, too?”

Eamonn continued to read the letter: “You’ve given years of pleasure to so many.” Turning to Ruth, he quipped: “That includes you!”

He said: “I’m still alive, Rosemary. Thank you.”

Getting serious for a moment, Ruth told Eamonn that she’d never seen him so ill and that he’d really been laid low with the illness.

He agreed, saying he couldn’t even talk because of the virus.

Fans were happy to see Eamonn back on screen, taking to social media to wish him well.

Poor Eamonn fell ill last week and was forced to skip Friday’s episode of This Morning and his hosting duties on talkRADIO on Monday and Tuesday.

It meant he was too unwell to go to the NTAs on Tuesday night, where This Morning picked up the Best Daytime programme award.

Posting a sorry looking photo to Instagram before Ruth left for the event, he told fans: “One of us is off to The NTA Showbiz Ceremony and the other is staying at home poorly, uncared for abandoned, coughing endlessly. Can u guess which of us is doing what?”

Bless him!

He then shared a video which saw Ruth saying: “My little sickly husband. This will be the first time I have been to the NTAs without you. You can’t even speak can you?”

Shaking his head, Eamonn managed to croak out: “You better not speak, you’re looking far too gorgeous!”

We agree!

Too sick to go to the #NTAs tonight with @ruthlangsford
