A contestant on The Chase stunned telly viewers by nabbing £20,000 for his team – despite getting nearly everything wrong in a disastrous ‘cash-builder’ round.
Brighton barber Andrew, 47, was the second in his team to step up and face Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett during yesterday’s episode of the ITV game show.
But he botched the vital first round by answering just one of a dozen questions correctly, leaving him in a perilous position going into the second stage of the popular quiz.

In response to Andrew’s questionable performance in the cash-builder, The Beast gave him a high offer of £20,000.
Accepting that offer would have meant starting off the round one square closer to the Chaser – and leave Andrew with no room for error. But despite the risks, his teammates encouraged Andrew to accept the high offer and go all out for the win.
It isn’t all that often Chase contestants manage to win with the higher offer but Andrew shocked viewers with an exceptionally valiant performance that saw him bring the winnings back for his team.

Others who congratulated Andrew were quick to point out that a poor cash-builder round doesn’t really mean anything and that he fully redeemed himself in the end.

But for some fans, The Beast’s defeat to Andrew seemed slightly suspicions – was Mark Labbett hustled by the seemingly unlikely contestant?
Could Andrew have been setting the Beast up for a fall by tactically playing it dumb?
If so, fooling The Beast with an initially poor performance, drawing into underestimating Andrew, must go down as an all-time great TV quiz strategy.
