Declan Donnelly has thanked fans for their messages of support following his solo stint on Britain’s Got Talent.

Fans praised the Geordie favourite for fronting the live semi-finals and final of the competition by himself while his presenting partner Ant McPartlin continues to take time away from the spotlight.

Dec shared a message to Twitter to thank fans and to congratulate the show’s winner Lee Ridley, also known as Lost Voice Guy.

Hinting he may have a bit of a sore head this morning following last night’s post-show partying, Dec began his message: “There are some days when only a bacon sandwich will do.”

“Thanks again for all the nice messages, hugely appreciated.”

“What a week!” he added. “Well done to all the acts and huge congrats @LostVoiceGuy, a worthy winner.

“Annnnd breeeeeeaaaaathe! D x.”

Fans rushed to praise Dec for doing an amazing job at fronting the show alone.

One person tweeted: “You did amazingly well all week, you absolutely smashed it!”

Another gushed: “Dec, you were absolutely amazing. You coped so well. Fantastic job,” while a third added: “You did a brilliant job. Now enjoy some well-deserved time off.”

Dec has impressed viewers all week and particularly won them over with his very energetic opening performances.

Last night, the presenter leaped and danced around the set to ‘I’m So Excited’ and even did a handstand on the stairs.

But it’s not just viewers that Dec managed to impress.

Head judge Simon Cowell, 58, thanked the beloved star for doing an “outstanding job” hosting the competition.

In the final seconds of the finale, just after Lost Voice Guy was declared the winner, Simon asked Dec to hand him the microphone.

Simon told him: “I want to say to you Dec, you have done an outstanding job this week. Seriously, thank you.”

As Dec gave a little smile, Alesha Dixon wrapped her arms around the presenter.

It’s the first series Dec has ever presented solo and even though fans thought he did great, many are hoping Ant will be back soon.

Ant stepped down from work commitments in March after a drink-driving incident and it’s unclear when he will return to TV.

However, Simon said he’s “almost certain” Ant will be back next year.

He told The Mirror: “I’m almost certain he’ll be back next year. And we want him back.”
