Death In Paradise viewers were shocked when a series regular died last night, but it wasn't who they expected it to be.
On Thursday (14 February), millions of fans tuned in to see the outcome of the previous week's tense end to a two-parter - when DS Florence Cassell was left fighting for her life.
After following fiancé Patrice Campbell to an abandoned warehouse, she was shot by an unknown assailant and left covered in blood on the floor.
Instead of showing a preview for the next episode as per usual, the instalment came to an abrupt end with 'to be continued' ominously broadcast.
But as the episode kicked off, it wasn't Florence who would lose her life...
Didn't see that one coming; Patrice dead too, and Florence fighting for her life. That's my prediction out of the window within the first 2 minutes.
Many viewers believed it was Patrice himself who could have been the shooter, and the person behind the murder of the Saint Marie festival queen.
However, after finding and saving Florence, DI Jack Mooney then stumbled across Patrice's dead body - leaving viewers doubly shocked that he had been killed and also that he clearly wasn't the culprit.
As the episode came to an end, it was revealed Frances Compton was in fact Patrice's killer and the mystery character who shot Florence - who decided to leave the beautiful island for good.
Viewers were shocked by the rollercoaster of plot twists, and equally gutted that another series regular had departed.
One wrote: "I was not prepared for that emotional ending. Is this truly the last time we're going to see Florence?"
Another said: "Didn't see that one coming; Patrice dead too, and Florence fighting for her life. That's my prediction out of the window within the first 2 minutes. Rewritten prediction; it's whoever Patrice was on the phone to."
A third added: "Just when you think
#DeathInParadise is a (comfortably) predictable format, the writers throw a curve ball like this story, and when Richard, Camille & Humphrey left. Superb acting from Florence et all."
Others called the episode "heartbreaking", "emotional" and "stunning".
Some fans even threatened to boycott the next series because of actress Joséphine Jobert's departure, which came just weeks after fellow fan favourite Danny John-Jules exited the show too.
