Dani’s departure from the lodge shocked the other contestants, with Georgia explaining: “Dani went down the slide and I think she hurt her arm when she landed.”

The girls, who are in a battle of the sexes against the boys, all praised Dani for being a “trooper” and trying to continue with the challenge despite her injury.

Georgia said: “At the end when she knew that was it, she even said ‘I’m sorry girls, I’m sorry’.”

They all raised a toast to their teammate. Dani’s injury and its aftermath will be shown in tonight’s debut episode of Survival of the Fittest, which starts 9pm on ITV2.

Survival of the Fittest pits a team of girls against a team of boys to see which sex will come out on top.

Hosted by Laura Whitmore, the show has been dubbed ‘Winter Love Island’ as its by the same makers as the smash hit summer programme.

For three weeks, the two teams will live in a luxury South African lodge in the hopes of winning a share of the £40,000 cash prize.

They will go up against each other in a series of physical and mental battles, with the losing team at risk of seeing team members go home or be replaced by a new arrival.

Explaining why she signed up, Dani said: “It’s brand new and a battle of the sexes. It makes the show so much sexier! Girls against Boys doing challenges against each other. Other shows add elements of the battle of the sexes but to have a show dedicated to it will be so exciting.”

Survival of the Fittest airs Sunday at 9pm on ITV2.
