Danny Baker responds to I’m A Celebrity bullying accusations

Some viewers felt his behaviour towards Martin Roberts was unacceptable

Ejected I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! contestant Danny Baker has denied that he was a bully in the jungle.

The broadcaster, 59, was the first celebrity to be voted out of the ITV show, despite being the last person in.

His confrontation with Homes Under The Hammer host Martin Roberts, 53, sparked accusations from some viewers that he was bullying his tearful camp-mate.

But Danny told the Sunday Mirror: “I don’t understand it at all. If someone is jabbing away at you and you have a go back and they say, ‘Oh, you’re bullying me’, that seems passive-aggressive nonsense.

“Maybe he cried. But I’m not responsible for a bloke who breaks down and cries after I’ve picked him up because he’s having a go at one of the girls in there.”

Danny said that he was only trying to defend Gogglebox star Scarlett Moffatt, 26.

“If I had been having a go at everyone in there, they could say, ‘He’s out of control’.

“But if a bloke is having a go at a young girl and patronising her and she’s not got the guts to come back, I think any man would step in and say, ‘Shut up!’ I think he embarrassed himself.”

Danny heaped praise on Scarlett, but said that she would be held back because of her background.

“She can take on anything she wants. She could be a host of Have I Got News For You and she wouldn’t need the scriptwriters…

“But she’s never going to get the chance because people always look at working class people and say, ‘Well, listen to that accent’.”
