Danger to life warning as 15 inches of snow and gusts of up to 80mph hit

Storm Deirdre is taking hold

Parts of Britain are facing up to 15 inches of snow and gusts of up to 80mph this weekend.

A danger to life warning has been issued, as Storm Deirdre threatens to batter areas of the UK.

This week the Met Office had already released two Amber weather warnings across most of Scotland, Northern and Central England for freezing rain.

Today the Met Office issued a third Amber warning for heavy snow and blizzards across Scotland and northern England.

Up to 15 inches of snow is expected to fall on the highest peaks in Scotland, while 8 inches will hit higher ground.

Daytime temperatures have dropped to 2C.
