Amazon Prime has announced the release date of its new series Cruel Summer.
The brand new 10-part thriller is executive produced by Hollywood actress Jessica Biel.
Jessica previously had a hand in producing the critically acclaimed Netflix show The Sinner.
Cruel Summer will now debut on Amazon Prime Video on August 6 in the UK.
It airs on Freeform in the US.
What is Cruel Summer on Amazon Prime about?
Cruel Summer takes place over three summers in the 1990s and focuses on the fallout of a teenage girl who goes missing.
Following the girl’s disappearance, a seemingly unrelated girl transforms from an awkward misfit to the most popular girl in town.
Eventually, she becomes the most hated person in America.
Intriguingly, Cruel Summer switches between the POV of different characters every episode.
Viewers will take a deep dive into the psyche of different characters as the mystery slowly begins to unravel.
Co-producer Bert V. Royal said: “We’re really excited to tell this story.

“We hope it will spark some interesting conversations about how our society can upend a person’s life and send them to the hell of infamy before, and sometimes even despite, the facts!”
Producer Jessica Biel added: “We read the first episode and we couldn’t stop thinking about the nonlinear storytelling.
“Initially you think this could be a girl vs. girl story. However, it really is completely about a difference of perspective. It’s your truth versus someone else’s truth.”

Cruel Summer currently holds a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes with critics.
The consensus reads: “Though it may have a bit too much going on, Cruel Summer’s delicious twists and delightful turns from its young stars are never less than entertaining.”
Who stars in the cast of Cruel Summer?
Cruel Summer boasts an impressive cast of talent.
Olivia Holt plays Kate Wallis, the girl who goes missing.
She began her career on the Disney Channel, before going on to star in the Marvel series Cloak & Dagger.
Chiara Aurelia plays outcast-turned-popular girl Jeanette Turner.
The actress is also known for her starring role in Amazon Prime series Tell Me Your Secrets.
However, other viewers may recognise her from CSI and Pretty Little Liars.

Froy Gutierrez plays Kate’s boyfriend, who starts dating Jeanette when she disappears.
Froy first rose to fame on the celebrated US sitcom The Goldbergs.
Harley Quinn Smith plays Mallory Higgins. She’s previously enjoyed roles in The CW series Supergirl and the movie Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.
Other stars include Michael Landes, who plays Jeanette’s father, Greg Turner. He’s previously starred in Silent Witness on the BBC.
However, he’s also known in Hollywood having appeared in movies such as Final Destination 2 and Angel Has Fallen.
