Corrie’s Sam Aston announces engagement

The couple have been together for five years

Coronation Street star Sam Aston has popped the question to his girlfriend of five-years Briony Gardner.

The actor, 23, who plays Chesney Brown in the ITV soap, got down on one knee on a stage in front of 250 people.

Both Sam and Briony shared the special moment on their Instagram pages.

Posting a series of photos and a clip of the heartwarming moment Briony wrote: “After sharing over 5 years together, 4 Al, Andy and Sam golf days and 3 doggies, 2 hearts have now become 1 as Sam and I are…ENGAGED!! (How is it possible I can even say that out loud?!).

“Sam got down on one knee last night at his annual golf do and proposed in front of 250 people and my heart could burst with happiness!! (When did I get so lucky?!).

“I can’t wait to marry my whole world but until then, I’m just floating in this bliss called love. I love you @samaston93.”

Fans were quick to congratulate the couple with one commenting: “So happy for you!!!! Congratulations!! So beautiful.”

Another said: “This is lovely. Congratulations to the both of you!”

“Oh my goodness! Congratulations @brionygardner & Sam!! So happy for you both. Such a beautiful couple xxx,” a third wrote.

Sam’s co-star Brooke Vincent also commented on the sweet post saying: “I’m actually welling up!!!!!!! I am so so so happy for you both!!!!! Congratulations!!! Love you both lots!!!”

Sam also captured the moment in an Instagram post writing: “Me and my beautiful bride to be…”

The couple first met in 2009 and their relationship has continued to blossom over the past eight years.

In an interview in 2013 Sam admitted he’s a self-confessed “old romantic”.

He said: “I do think I’m romantic.

“I like to treat my girlfriend, buy her flowers and make a fuss of her.

“We both still live at home with our parents.

“I’m not ready to move in together yet. I’d rather save up for a few years anyway.”
