Coronation Street’s Kym Marsh reveals she was bullied at school

She wanted to be an actress

Kym Marsh has revealed she was bullied at school because of her acting dreams.

The Coronation Street star has admitted she was picked on by other children when she was younger because she “wasn’t like” the others, and she revealed it was an “awful” period of her life.

Opening up in her OK! Magazine column, she wrote: “I was bullied at school because I wasn’t like everyone else and was focused on becoming a performer.

“It was an awful time and I have zero tolerance for bullying in any form.”

Her comments come after Hollyoaks actress Nikki Sanderson opened up about her own experiences, which saw her physically assaulted as a teenager when she starred in Corrie.

She revealed how cruel bullies “punched” and “kicked” her, as well as setting her hair on fire, and verbal abuse.

Kym said: “It’s absolutely awful that happened to her and it sounds like pure jealousy from other young people. Your teens are a time when you’re finding out who you are and because of the job she did, she was being ridiculed and abused.”

She said bullying is “hard to cope with, along with school work and exams”.

Last week, Nikki, now 34, candidly spoke about her experiences when she first appeared on the cobbles at the age of 15.

She told The Mirror: “It was before social media so I used to get it in the street instead. It was when I first started at Corrie.

“It was all different types of things. I had my hair set on fire, I’ve been punched, kicked, pushed over, had drinks thrown over me, and been called every name under the sun.”

Despite the cruel bullies, Nikki has praised her cast mates at the soap’s crew for supporting her.

She added: “I have to say that everyone at Coronation Street and all the people around me were just so wonderful and supportive, which I’m truly grateful for.”
