Corrie spoiler: Sarah Platt dumps Gary Windass over Bethany’s crush

There will be no happy new year for Sarah and Gary

There is nothing more certain in a soap than a seemingly happy couple hitting rocky ground and their relationship falling apart.

Coronation Street viewers may have thought that Sarah Platt and Gary Windass would be forever after they finally hooked up a couple of months ago.

There’s a spanner in the works on the horizon though… and it comes in the shape of Sarah’s daughter Bethany.

It would seem that a text on Bethany’s phone is going to spell the end for Sarah and Gary.

It is fair to say that Gary has helped Bethany during some tough times, as the bullying she was subjected to got worse.

Bethany began to become infatuated with her mother’s boyfriend though.

So, the discovery of a text by Sarah that reveals that her daughter has eyes for her man too leads to Sarah feeling devastated by her potential betrayal.

Feeling uncomfortable about Bethany’s desires, Sarah feels that she has no option but to call time on her relationship with Gary.

Emotions run high as the pair have a heart-to-heart and Sarah tells Gary about Bethany’s crush.

Deciding that she needs to put her daughter’s feelings first, Sarah believes that ending it with Gary is the only option.

Is this really the end of another beautiful relationship in Weatherfield?

Gary is not normally one that goes quietly, so we expect there will be plenty of wailing and wracking of brains as to how to make it work between them.

Meanwhile, Bethany is going to be entering one of the darkest storylines ever seen on the ITV soap.

There are plans to show the 16-year-old being groomed by an older boyfriend before being caught up in a sex ring.

The challenging plot will take pointers from real-life stories that have seen teenagers ‘pimped out’ by their lovers to other ‘friends’.

Speaking to The Sun, a source said: “This storyline was not undertaken lightly, it was the subject of major discussions among the show’s writers and bosses.

“But in the end they agreed that, while controversial, it was very important.

“We know Bethany’s popular with girl viewers and hope to make them aware of the risks of this situation.

“The really sinister element is that, while viewers will be aware Bethany’s boyfriend is bad news, she’ll have no idea. Hopefully that will resonate.”
