Corrie bags actress from rival soap to play Liz McDonald’s new enemy

"Listen, lady...!" There will be fireworks

Corrie is getting a new cast member this summer and, while she is a soap stalwart, you may not recognise her face.

Because the soap that’s made her famous is radio show The Archers.

Louiza Patikas will join the Corrie cast this summer as Moira, who will work with Liz McDonald as she starts her new job at Weatherfield Medical Centre.

Until recently Louiza starred in the radio soap as Helen Titchener, who was at the centre of a huge domestic violence plot.

The storyline came to a head last autumn as Helen was tried for attempted murder, after stabbing evil Rob.

The trial was a major soap event, taking place in real time and eventually seeing Helen acquitted after Rob’s treatment of her was exposed.

The storyline was praised by domestic violence charities.

As Moira though, Louiza will be taking on a more light-hearted role (for now… we’re not ruling anything out, this is Corrie) as the medical centre’s office manager.

If you thought she and Liz were going to bond over Liz’s lycra collection and a potted history of terrible dates, you’ll be disappointed though. Because the pair are going to clash, big time.

“I’m cock-a-hoop to be working on Coronation Street,” Louiza told The Belfast Telegraph.

“It’s a fantastic show which I’ve always loved for its superb writing and iconic characters.”

And Corrie Boss Kate Oates is excited too: “Louiza is no stranger to long-running drama but as Moira, viewers will get to see another side to her – and enjoy her amazing talent for comedy.”

Anything that involves comedy + Liz McDonald + other women is, frankly, a winner for us.

Especially for the episode when they finally bond and go on a boozy night out with Eileen.
