Debbie Rush leaves Corrie after 9 years, Gary Windass may follow

Another favourite is considering a move away from the cobbles

Just as we’re starting to process the news Debbie Rush, aka Anna Windass, is leaving Corrie after nine years, we now also have to deal with the fact her on-screen son, Gary Windass might be leaving too.

Gary gets a job offer abroad next week and is seriously tempted to take it. Will he really leave his girlfriend, Sarah Platt behind?

It all kicks off when his old Army mate, Joe, turns up and reveals he’s doing some very lucrative work.

As the lads catch up over a pint at the Rovers, Joe tells Gaz he’s running a private security firm in the Ukraine and has been raking it in.

Keen to share his wealth, Joe thinks Gary would be perfect for a role alongside him and urges him to think about coming along.

Ex-soldier Gary is seriously tempted – it would, after all, help him to provide a better life for Sarah and their various children.

But with Sarah going through such a hard time with Bethany’s struggle and the fight against Nathan, can Gary really desert her in her time of need?

Sarah obviously won’t want to up sticks and leave with him what with everything that’s going on, so it’s a difficult choice Gary faces between his girlfriend and the job.

Could he be following in the footsteps on his mum and departing Weatherfield?

Debbie announced her departure from the show yesterday with a statement released on the ITV website.

“I’ve had an amazing nine years and the decision to leave was not made lightly.

“I love playing Anna and will miss working with the fantastic cast and crew.

“I don’t know what the future holds but I am excited to explore what other acting opportunities are out there.”

But don’t worry folks.

For those of you who love Debbie, you can continue to enjoy her for sometime as she’s not rushing off in a hurry – she’ll be on screen for a good while yet and will be in the thick of it on the cobbles until 2018.

“I am very grateful for all the brilliant storylines I have been given during my time on Coronation Street,” she said. “And am very much looking forward to what is in store for Anna in the run up to my departure next year.”

It’s been reported that Debbie gave her bosses at the show a fairly long notice period so they could dream up a brilliant storyline for her to exit with.

Will she end up leaving to visit her son in the Ukraine if he does decide to go?
