Coronation Street stuns fans with reveal of how they filmed Jack Webster’s amputation with Hollywood style CGI

It's seriously impressive work that wouldn't be out of place in movies

Coronation Street fans have been left stunned by the show’s use of Hollywood movie style effects for Jack Webster’s amputated foot.

On Friday night’s episode of the ITV soap, Jack was shown to be coping very well with his condition.

But when the soap showed Jack’s leg clearly rather than hiding it, viewers were perplexed but seriously impressed with the scene.

Schoolboy Jack lost his foot after contracting Sepsis from a cut to his knee.

Doctors were forced to step in and amputate his foot in order to save his life.

And while his family have struggled with the loss, resilient Jack has taken it in his stride.

He told his dad Kevin: “It’s OK dad, you don’t need to be sad.”

Jack then began wheeling himself around in his wheelchair, clearly showing his amputated foot on it.

But with fans flocking to social media to try to work out who they had managed to pull off such an impressive scene, the soap has released a video showing exactly how.

They used movie style green-material effects, giving the actor a sock to wear over where his amputation would be on screen.

Fans were seriously impressed.

A second added: “I was pretty amazed because I had only heard of them talk about him having his foot amputated.”

Another said: “Films have a huge budget and facilities to do this sort of stuff at specialist studios. For a soap to do it is unheard of, groundbreaking stuff and extremely realistic.”
