After weeks of speculation over his next career move, Christine Lampard’s husband Frank has confirmed he is taking on a new job as the manager of Derby County Football Club.

Announcing the news via his Instagram account today, the former England and Chelsea player wrote: “I’m excited to confirm my first move into management with @dcfcofficial, a club with such huge tradition and history.”

So does this mean he will be moving from London to the Midlands?

The 39-year-old is married to presenter Christine Lampard, who is expecting their first baby in September, and he has two daughters Luna, 12, and Isla, 11, from his relationship with Elen Rivas.

Christine currently hosts Loose Women regularly, and this week is standing in for Lorraine Kelly on her show – both filmed at studios in the capital.

When Christine, 39, appeared on Lorraine last week to share the happy news of her pregnancy, she told Lorraine she didn’t have any plans to move.

“I have been moving about ten times this week according to the papers. I’ll let you know if I actually am if it happens but I’m not moving anywhere yet,” she said.

This was before Frank’s role at Derby was confirmed, as last week he’d been linked to a job with Ipswich’s football team.

Christine denied they would be heading to Suffolk but hinted that Frank would be going into football management.

“He’s on the telly doing punditry at the minute but he’s also been doing his coaching badges so eventually he would like to manage, so names are being bandied about all over the place,” she said.

Today it was confirmed his first management position will be with Derby after signing a three-year deal.

Frank said: “I’ve always wanted to manage a club with a big tradition and history like Derby County, so this is a huge opportunity. I have spent considerable time discussing the role and the club’s objectives with the chairman and board members.

“This is my first job as a manager, but I’ve worked closely with some of the best coaches in the game and I’m confident in my own abilities and those of the team around me, including the board.

“I know it won’t be easy – managing a football team never is – but I’m really looking forward to the challenge ahead.”

Frank’s new job comes during a year of big change for his family as he and Christine will welcome their first baby in September.

The couple only recently shared the news she’s expecting as Christine admitted she was “anxious” about something going wrong.

Sharing a family photo on Instagram a fortnight ago, Frank wrote: “We have some exciting news we wanted to share with you. The Lampard family is growing! My gorgeous wife @christinelampard is pregnant and we all couldn’t be happier!!”
