Such sad news

True legend of children’s TV Carol Lee Scott has passed away. The actress gave many a British kid nightmares in the eighties with her role as Grotbags in ITV show Emu’s World.

Her niece Gina Mear announced the sad news on social media, sharing to Twitter and Facebook.

She wrote: “My dear aunty Carol lost her brave fight against cancer yesterday. To many of you she was Grotbags – a legend! To me she was just aunty Carol. I shall miss her hugely, rest in peace Carol xxx.”

Grotbags came to life in Emu’s World in January 1982, starring alongside the likes of creepy manservant Grovel, mechanical butler Robot Redford and cowardly crocodile Croc.

Grotbags proved so terrifyingly popular she had her own eponymous spin-off.

Carol, who was 74, had been battling cancer.

RIP – and thank you for the memories.
