Charlotte Hawkins says she’s “taken action” against Piers Morgan

They had a bit of a tiff on yesterday's show

| Updated:

Charlotte Hawkins filled in for Piers Morgan on Wednesday’s Good Morning Britain, just a day after he interrupted her news report.

The journalist quipped that she’s “taken action” against the outspoken presenter by locking him in a cupboard for cutting her off on Tuesday’s show.

As the show returned to the studio on Tuesday, Charlotte had said: “This is our top…” before Piers cut her off to talk about an unrelated Instagram photo posted by Strictly’s Shirley Ballas.

On Wednesday, Charlotte and Susanna explained that Piers has taken Wednesday off work because he has a golf tournament.

Discussing Piers’ behaviour on yesterday’s show, Charlotte said: “Yesterday, I have to say, we had a moment, didn’t we, when Piers interrupted [me].”

A clip from Tuesday’s programme was then shown, before Susanna added: “The key thing about that moment that caused quite a storm among Twitter users was you were just about to go into your news bulletin.”

Susanna also pointed out Charlotte’s “death stare” as Piers cut her off.

Charlotte replied: “I didn’t really realise… obviously internally that’s what I was feeling but I didn’t realise it was quite so visual until everybody played it back to me.”

Susanna quipped: “So you may be forgiven for thinking that Piers has been moved out of the chair by Charlotte,” as Charlotte joked: “I’ve taken action, I’ve locked him in the broom cupboard.”

“But it is of course because Piers is taking a break this morning, he has a golf tournament,” Susanna clarified.

On Wednesday morning, Piers told his Twitter followers he’s “very excited” about the charity golf tournament at Wentworth golf club, with golfer Ernie Els, cricketer Kevin Pietersen and his rival BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker.

He said: “I’ll be teeing off at 1.15pm from the 16th hole. If you want to come down & watch. Just hope Dan doesn’t try drafting into my slipstream..”

On Tuesday, Piers practised his golfing skills with Susanna outside the Good Morning Britain studios.

Alongside a snap of himself and Susanna celebrating, Piers took a swipe at Dan over GMB and BBC Breakfast’s ratings.

“The new ratings are in… cc @mrdanwalker,” he wrote.
